22 SHOW THIS SUNDAY!

The first issue of the 22 Magazine/Project I’ve put together! Here goes nothing!

We’ve had quite an interesting couple of weeks after moving both of our shows in a matter of days but here we are at the opening for The 22 Magazine and it’s no lie, we’re excited! We have a very large line up so get there early if you don’t want to miss anything! (show starts at 7, we’ll be hanging guerrilla style from 3pm onwards, so feel free to come get coffee and say hello!)

We will have readings with poet Edgar Oliver, fantasy writer Erin Snyder, Dolores Alfieri and Samantha Kostmayer Sulaiman, as well as gads of videos from backwards liturgical paint drying, to phone mom operators, to neon stop motion puppets. Collages and textual art from Joesba Eskbui, Doug Baulous and Eric Zboya. Paintings and drawings from the hands of Katherine Tzu-Lan Mann, music from Threefifty Duo and even a special preview for Vol. 2 with Steve Dalachinsky and Ben Gerstein.

So much goodness in one room.

Swing on by and learn all about our project, how you can be a part of it and what this magazine and it’s mission is all about!

Can’t wait to share The 22 with all of you.

DETAILS: THE 22 SHOW/RELEASE PARTY WILL TAKE PLACE APRIL 10th AT CAFE ORWELL ON THE MORGAN STOP. IT WILL START AT 7PM AND IS A ONE NIGHT SHOW. SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE!

The 22 is a biannual arts and literature online magazine that seeks to explore connections and intersections between the works of artists, musicians and writers. In some portions of The 22 the structure is presented as a diptych or sometimes triptych, allowing the viewer to actively participate in the task of opening the hinges that link conversation between the pieces.

The 22 Show was formed to showcase the talents of each issue’s contributors. This year’s show will feature performances, music, reading and film work from several of the artists and writers. By forming a collective group and by carefully selecting contributors whose work is enhanced through combination, The 22 Show is a comparison and celebration of the voice of the artist as solo and unified.

The opening reception will take place APRIL 10 at CAFE ORWELL Brooklyn NY.

A new, deafening primal scream.
Some of my first, delightfully obscene attempts at mixing purely from sound effects.
Bike wheel, scream, airport, take-off, landing….etc etc.
This one goes out to Bizzy.

Institute_Institut

Hi Folks, I’ll be helping in small ways with Panoply’s Institute_Institut project about reflections on the functions, foibles and roles of Institutions in daily life. They are currently looking for people to take 5 minutes or so to talk about institutions and I sure would appreciate it if you could come participate!

Institute_Institut

The final piece in the Transformational Grammar of the Institutional Glorybowltrilogy. Performances will be in early Fall, 2011.

Between Dec. 2010 and June 2011, PPL is conducting a series of Focus Workshops in Brooklyn, NY, investigating cultural structures, interpersonal politics, daily conceptions of reality, and institutional ecologies.

Seeking opinions, experiences, and feedback from individuals of all ages and from all backgrounds, these workshops form a public co-creation aspect of the experimental opera project Institute_Institut.

A Focus Workshop is part focus group and part thinktank. “Workshop” is used to note the performance-based perspective held by the workshop facilitators (the artists creating the project) and the performance research direction that some workshops take, depending on the interests of the participants.

Part I: Group Discussion. What are institutions? How do they function in your life? What are some of your experiences with them?

Part 2: Enactions, observations, and games.

All participants will receive a free ticket to the performances ofInstitute_Institut, in Fall 2011. The project is a staged documentary opera about authority, reality, institutionality, and sensibility. Issues and ideas discussed and researched through these Focus Workshops, as well as selected experiences, statements, and documentation from them (and many other forms of research) will largely form the libretto.
